Gannon & Scott Employee Recognized by the IPMI

Published 10/29/2015

Gannon & Scott is pleased to congratulate Donna Kiesel on recently being acknowledged for her tireless dedication to the New England Chapter of International Precious Metals Institute (IPMI) and, specifically, to the annual Jewelry Design Award competition.

Since 1997, Donna has devoted many hours to organizing, running and securing funds for the New England IPMI to recognize worthy college students focused on designing and creating wearable jewelry pieces. Donna was one of the key New England IMPI Chapter board members responsible for the significant growth this program has achieved in the past 13 years.

During this year’s 25th annual award ceremony held in May, the students weren’t the only attendees who were honored for their achievements. In addition to a record number of awards, scholarships and support for Jewelry Design programs at New England colleges and universities made by the NE IPMI, Donna Kiesel was presented with a Certificate of Silver Membership by Christopher Jones, Chairman of the National Chapter of the IPMI. This is a special membership category awarded to individual members who have made significant contributions to the IPMI’s growth and to those deserving of special recognition. Donna certainly fits both of those criteria.

Congratulations on a job well done!

Tribute To Jack Gannon

Published 05/18/2015

Our beloved owner, John “Jack” Gannon passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015.   Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late William H. & Mary A. Gannon.  Jack served in the RI Air National Guard for over twenty years, retiring at the rank of Major.  He enjoyed golf, travelling and celestial navigation.   He was an avid marksman and boater; he loved spending time entertaining others on his boat, Touchstone.  However, his true passion was his company, Gannon & Scott.  Jack joined the family business in 1953, and took over as the third generation owner in 1966.  During his 62 year tenure, he learned every task and mastered every position in the refining business.   During the latter part of his career, Jack was in the office nearly every day.  He treated all of his employees as part of his extended family. The position of President at Gannon & Scott has now been passed on to his daughter, Margaret Gannon Jones, who will continue to run the company with the same core principles that drove her father.

Besides his wife, Anita, he leaves two children, Margaret Gannon Jones and her husband, Chris, of Cave Creek, AZ, their two children, Paige and Ryan and David Gannon and his wife, Kristen, of Louisville, CO, and their two children, Meredith & Hal.

Jack’s vision continued to guide Gannon & Scott over the last several years of his life. He was extremely proud and involved in the development of our newest facility at Sharpe Drive in Cranston, RI and knew the investment was a critical component to the company’s future growth. Jack truly enjoyed the business of precious metals refining, but his real passion was for his employees. He cherished and valued each and every member of the team and showed it every chance he could.

Jack’s extended Gannon & Scott family, his employees, want to say, “Godspeed and thank you for your generosity and many kindnesses – you will be sorely missed but never forgotten.”

Don Olson Retirement Announcement

Don Olson Retirement Announcement

It is with both extreme happiness and sincere regret that Gannon & Scott announces the retirement of a long-time and valued employee, Don Olson. Don was the Production Manager at Gannon & Scott’s Phoenix, AZ precious metals refining facility.

A Coast Guard veteran who was stationed at Pt. Judith, RI, Don began his career in precious metals refining with Handy & Harman in 1971. Don held a number of supervisory positions with Handy & Harman, at their Attleboro, MA location. In 1990, he and his family relocated to Arizona, where Don continued his career at Handy’s Phoenix plant.

In 2000, Gannon & Scott acquired the Phoenix plant and fortunate to be able to retain Don’s services. He quickly became a trusted and valued member of our team.

Don is admired by everyone at Gannon & Scott. Several of his former Handy & Harman Attleboro colleagues work for Gannon & Scott in Cranston, RI and late last year the Cranston, RI team was able to enjoy a final Christmas party in RI with Don and his wife, Dianne. The Phoenix plant held a retirement luncheon for Don in early April of this year.

Don noted recently, “I feel privileged to have had a very fulfilling career and to have had the opportunity to work with some terrific people.  My last fifteen years in the precious metals refining industry have been the most inspiring, and I am very grateful they were spent at Gannon & Scott, a truly exceptional company.”

In retirement, Don and Dianne and their dog, TiGau, will stay in Payson, Arizona, where he hopes to sharpen his woodworking skills and travel with his wife. Don and Diane’s two daughters also live in Arizona and Don and Dianne are also looking forward to spending more time with them in retirement.

Don was born in Rhode Island, and while he spent the majority of his career in Arizona, his New England roots run deep. “There is nothing better than good old New England fish and chips”, according to Don. We wish Don and his family all the best in retirement and thank him for his many years of dedicated service.
